Project Art and Ferrin Contemporary gallery are open to the public 11 – 4 pm during the Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour weekend. Our guest artists are Garth Johnson, writer, artist, and curator, and Adam Chau, artist and ACC member.

The gallery will offer works for sale and study by resident & visiting artists including Russell Biles, Sergei Isupov, Kadri Parnamets, Paul Scott, and Mara Superior.

Lunch at Project Art with ACC Members and Guests.

Enjoy a conversation with Garth Johnson Everson Museum of Art (Curator of Ceramics and ACC Board Member) and Adam Chau (artist and ACC Member) tracing the history of historical transferware’s influence on contemporary artists, an element of Chau’s work, which will be on view, along with Ferrin Contemporary resident artists Sergei Isupov and Kadri Parnamets.

ABOUT ADAM CHAU


An expert in the field of ceramics, Adam Chau (he/him) blends traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. With a BFA from Maine College of Art and a Masters in Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Adam makes contemporary art in his studio in Connecticut and frequently travels for residencies. His work has exhibited globally, earning international acclaim and a robust publication record. Adam received the NCECA Emerging Artist Fellowship in 2018 and has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, a UNESCO partner, since 2019.

As a curator, Adam has served as the Exhibitions Director at ArtsWestchester (2021-2025), New York State’s largest independent arts council; Director of Exhibitions for NCECA (2022-2026+); and has an independent practice for traveling exhibitions of contemporary art around the United States.

ABOUT GARTH JOHNSON

Artist, writer, curator, and educator, Garth Johnson is the Paul Phillips and Sharon Sullivan Curator of Ceramics at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York. Before arriving at the Everson, Johnson served as the Curator of Ceramics at the Arizona State University Ceramics Research Center. Johnson has also exhibited his work and published his writing nationally and internationally, including contributions to the recent books Funk published by Natsoulas Press and Funk You Too: Humor and Irreverence in Ceramic Sculpture published by the Museum of Arts and Design.

Johnson is a self-described craft activist who explores craft’s influence and relevance in the 21st century. His research interests range from 1960s and 70s artist-led movements in the field of ceramics to the intersection of clay, video, and performance. His exhibitions at the Everson include Renegades & Reformers: American Art Pottery, Earth Piece: Conceptual and Performative Works in Clay and Key Figures: Representational Ceramics 1932-1972.
