Illustrated Sculpture Workshop with Sergei Isupov

7 Day Hands-on Workshop: October 20th–26th, 2019

Join internationally acclaimed sculptor Sergei Isupov for Figural Sculpture: Ideation to Materialization, an intensive hands-on workshop exploring the sculpted figure in clay, the painted surface from the development of ideas to materialization of form. Open to participants age 18 and above.  Hands-on workshops are for artists with prior, advanced experience with clay. Limited to 10.

At Project Art, in rural Massachusetts, the workshop combines demonstrations with hands-on active studio time and one-on-one instruction from Isupov and includes an evening illustrated lecture. Optional add-ons, pre or post workshop, provide the opportunity to explore area museums, select studios and nearby natural settings.  Hands-on workshops are limited to 10 and prior experience required. Isupov will lead students through demonstration and include techniques of slab construction, underglaze painting, and glaze application with the goal of completing one or more figurative sculptures. Students will have individual work spaces in the shared, airy open studio space in Project Art, a renovated 19th century Mill on the banks of the Westfield River.

The week long workshop runs Sunday–Saturday. The workshop begins Sunday 12pm–5pm, runs Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, ending Saturday 9am-12pm. During the course of the week, there will be two evening programs, one with an illustrated lecture and a second one as an opportunity for participants to share their work and ideas with the group. If desired, participants are invited to schedule a 30 minute portfolio review with Isupov or gallery director, Leslie Ferrin on a first come, first serve basis for an additional fee of $50.
